Examples and Resources

I blew through some examples and resources Tuesday in class. If you want to check out some of the books or software mentioned, click here. The links inside the document work to take you to Amazon and such.

How the projects/teams will work

I’ve switched from individual projects to project teams because of the various levels of interaction design experience by the students. In most instances, the students are inexperienced with the interaction design process.
The idea is that we will work together on four or five projects, ranging from 4/5 students to 6/7 on each team. These projects [...]

Catching up with your projects

OK. Here are the teams we set in class yesterday. I will send each of you a roster with emails. I’d rather not post everybody’s email here for spam reasons.
I will go over next steps for each team in separate posts to follow.
The teams are as follow … (these are subject to change and a [...]

Class 04 — a guest professor

Professor Chip Wood has graciously taken this afternoon’s class as I am dealing with helping stranded family in Houston affected by Hurricane Ike. I will not be in class tonight. Chip, who is the former worldwide director of design at Texas Instruments and now the graduate advisor for ATEC (and Tom Linehan’s right-hand man), has [...]

Recent Facebook links for Facebook project team

Some developers are seeing traffic booms post Facebook redesign But that doesn’t mean that all developers are getting hurt. Some of them tell us that they’ve seen the opposite since the redesign kicked in, and have seen “hockey stick” growth in the last month or so.

Testing ecto again

Of course a program like ecto, a high-powered blogging client, is much more robust than a program like MacJournal. … I get a lot more options, of course, and I can resize from within ecto (a bit awkward). blog1.jpg

Testing blog client

This is a test of the emergency broadcast system. This is only a test.
Not really. I am just seeing if this program, MacJournal, will post to multiple blogs.
Please ignore and do not panic.

Searching for Blogging Client. With Updates!

Right now, at this moment, I am trying MacJournal?s blogging feature. I figure why not. I?ve tried them all — ecto, Mars Edit, the Wordpress browser interface, Yojimbo, Circus Ponies Notebook, to name but a few. Some are made for blogging, others are more general purpose with or without blog features. So far, none of [...]

Good and Bad Designs

Good and Bad Design

Good
Wii remotes and nunchuck – I love these. They feel like an extension of my hand. I love how they are separated from each other and allow your hands to move around.

Skateboards – Very simple design, but ultimately very effective. Some wheels, and something to stand on: easy in my book.

Project Idea

My interaction design idea fuses together the principles of IM, YouTube, and general cell phone contacts. My idea is to be able to catalog and share videos, pictures, and music to your friends. The problem I see with YouTube is that there is so much “crap” being uploaded, it is sometimes hard to find something [...]

Links of Interest to help you get started

I have assembled links from my Delicious bookmarks that may be of interest to you and might get you started with some research. I offer no guarantees that you will find good stuff — although I believe you will — and the links are sort of random and messy, but they’re worth thumbing through to [...]
